Alumni Borrowing Privileges

Members of the University of Georgia Alumni Association can borrow books from the Main and Science Libraries by presenting an Alumni Association Member card and picture ID at the circulation desk.

Circulation staff will issue a borrowers card with an expiration date matching the date on the Alumni Association Member card.

To provide the best possible access to the Libraries' collection for all of our patrons, the following borrowing regulations are followed by the Access Services Department:

The borrower's card is nontransferable and must be accompanied by a current picture identification card.

If the card is lost, the patron should notify the Access Services Department as soon as possible.

A limit of five books can be charged to an Alumni borrower at any given time.

A patron is responsible for all items checked out in his/her name until those items clear the Circulation Desk.

A patron can view their account information online.

Regular overdue fines are 25 cents per day per item for each day the libraries are open.  Books are due by closing on the date that appears on the patron's record.  Fines begin on the first day an item is overdue.

Payment for fines and fees can be made in person at the Main and Science Libraries' circulation desks with cash, check, or credit card. Can't get to the library? Payments can also be made via telephone with a credit card or by mail with a check or money order paid to the order of UGA Libraries. Contact Information for the Main and Science Libraries:

A patron may renew their book(s) online twice.  After the book(s) has been renewed twice, the patron must bring the book to the Circulation Desk for renewal. When clicking the renew button be very careful.  If you accidentally click the renew button twice, GIL will renew the book(s) twice.  Check the status of each book to verify that it was renewed.  If an item has already been renewed twice, you will get the message "Not Renewed".

Due to licensing agreements and vendor restrictions, Alumni borrowers do not have remote access to GALILEO through the University of Georgia.  GALILEO is an electronic library service offered by the University System of Georgia. When connecting from off campus, full access to some of GALILEO's components (licensed, commercial databases), is limited to currently enrolled students, faculty, staff, and registered public library patrons. Georgia citizens not affiliated with the University of Georgia should contact their local library for access information.

Overdue notices and fine bills are sent to the address in the patron's record in the Circulation system.  These notices are sent as a courtesy; failure to receive them does not absolve one from accruing fines.  The patron is responsible for notifying the Access Services Department when his/her address changes

A patron with this borrower's card cannot recall items that are checked out to another patron.

The loan period of items recalled for other users is shortened.  Items recalled for another patron should be returned as soon as possible.  Recall overdue fines are $1.00 per day.

Items that are recalled for another patron may not be renewed.

A patron who believes that an item checked out in his/her name has been lost should report it as soon as possible to the Main or Science Library's Circulation Desk.

A patron who loses an item is responsible for reimbursing the Libraries for the replacement cost, the processing fee, and fines accrued.

Patrons are responsible for the proper care of items that they have checked out.  The cost of repair or replacement of damaged items will be billed to the borrower.

Rules and regulations of The University of Georgia Libraries are to be followed.  Failure to do so may result in the suspension of patron borrowing privileges.

This borrower's card does not entitle the borrower to certain library privileges such as Interlibrary Loan, Reserves, or other restricted Libraries collections.
