University System Borrowing Privileges

GIL Express allows all eligible students, faculty and staff of the University of Georgia to search a single online catalog that includes the holdings of all 35 USG libraries and request delivery of eligible circulating books to the UGA library of your choice. GIL Express items may be checked out for 28 days and may be returned to any University System of Georgia library.

Search the statewide Universal Catalog and make requests. Visit the GIL Express website for more information on this service. For your convenience GIL Express items may be picked up or returned at any USG library.

Recall Fines

UGA libraries charge higher daily fines for recalled items, and these fines apply to GIL Express loans. Also, your original due date may be shortened on any item that has been renewed if someone at the owning library recalls the material. You may monitor your "My Account" record frequently and return materials on time in order to avoid late charges. (Go to or your local catalog and click "My Account" to check your due dates.)

Payment for recall fines and fees can be made in person at the Main and Science Libraries' circulation desks with cash, check, or credit card. Can't get to the library? Payments can also be made via telephone with a credit card or by mail with a check or money order paid to the order of UGA Libraries. Contact Information for the Main and Science Libraries:

If your account is in good standing and no one else has requested items, GIL Express materials may be renewed up to two times through your online account information. Once an item becomes overdue, it cannot be renewed or checked out again. GIL Express materials can only be renewed through your online account or in person at the owning library.

One overdue book or $10.00 in fines will block your library privileges, at all USG libraries, including UGA. Fines that can accrue include recall fines, damage charges, replacement and processing costs for lost materials, and service fees charged by some libraries for billing costs. All financial obligations must be resolved with the library that owns the material.
