POSITION: UGA Griffin Campus Librarian
DEPARTMENT: College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Griffin
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The University of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the UGA Libraries seek a Librarian for their UGA Griffin Campus Library. This position is operationally responsible to the Assistant Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at Griffin. Programmatically, the position is responsible to the Deputy University Librarian at the University of Georgia Libraries and is a member of the UGA Libraries non-tenure track faculty. The position is located in Griffin, Georgia where the Librarian works closely with the Library Committee of the UGA Griffin Campus. The Librarian’s duties include assisting students, faculty, and staff in making effective use of library and other Internet resources, and citation management programs including EndNote. To achieve this goal, the Librarian provides in-person and virtual reference assistance, library instruction sessions, departmental office hours, and one-on-one in-depth consultations. The Librarian develops web pages and other guides for faculty who wish to incorporate research resources into their curriculum. The Librarian collaborates with the UGA Libraries’ Head of Science Collections and Scholarly Communication in maintaining the Library’s collection. Additionally, the Librarian is responsible for coordinating, planning, developing, and managing the day-to-day operations of the Griffin Campus Research Facility Library, including supervising one full-time Library Associate I.
The Library serves about 230 University and U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers, extension specialists, staff and students. The Library’s collection has over 20,000 volumes, 300 print journal subscriptions, 350 databases, thousands of electronic journals available through the UGA Libraries, and seven public service computer workstations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promotes use of digital and print resources by providing a variety of reference and instructional services to the university community and the general public, including both general and in-depth reference assistance, EndNote training, and instruction in the use of databases and other discovery tools available through the library, including the GIL catalog, GALILEO, the UGA Libraries and the Internet, and developing and maintaining user aids for library resources and services.
Builds strong client-centered relationships by actively cultivating and promoting interactions with faculty and students to keep them informed of library resources and services and to better understand their research and curricular needs.
Teaches course-specific and other types of instruction sessions and develops point-of-need and course-integrated research guides and tutorials.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of reference sources by selecting reference titles for purchase, reviewing digital and print resources, monitoring new acquisitions, and reading relevant professional literature.
Uses social media, online tutorials, and other technologies to promote and deliver instruction and research services online.
Serves library patrons in accessing the collection by overseeing the circulation desk, including planning and organizing the workflow of the circulation desk; interpreting library circulation policy; determining the procedures to be used in handling problems related to circulation, and handling all specialized services to library patrons.
Oversees maintenance of the collection by coordinating materials selection, evaluation, and de-selection with the UGA Griffin Campus Library Committee and UGA Libraries, reviewing locally produced cataloging for consistency with Library records, and maintaining a local inventory.
Maintains an appropriate research library environment by determining requirements for supplies and equipment needed to support Campus missions and administering the Library’s local operating budget to meet those needs.
Ensures quality control for serials by overseeing maintenance of accurate serials and periodicals records, claiming and binding.
Supervises support staff by planning and assigning work, providing training in the use of electronic and print resources, following up on assignments, and evaluating their work.
Works with UGA Libraries’ Cataloging Department staff to ensure that materials are cataloged properly.
Participates in general UGA Libraries and UGA Griffin Campus administration by serving on appropriate committees as assigned or elected.
Maintains awareness and acts upon changes and needs in the organization by assuming similar duties and responsibilities.
ALA-accredited MLIS; Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or demonstrated interest in library research in the sciences; Five years of experience in an academic or special library; Ability to develop instruction sessions and to instruct users effectively both individually and in the classroom setting; Commitment to student and faculty research and teaching; Knowledge of virtual reference services; Knowledge of web design and applications in current and emerging instructional technologies and experience creating classroom resources using Internet and multimedia authoring tools; Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities; Effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to create and maintain productive, long-term, effective working relationships; Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students, faculty, and colleagues.
