Job Summary

The Circulation/Reserves Assistant is responsible to the Public Services/Reserves Coordinator for facilitating access to the Libraries’ collection. The Assistant processes materials for delivery and fulfillment, works with instructors to create and access course reserve lists, works the public service desk and performs specialized circulation services including removing student registration flags, issuing borrowers’ cards, and interpreting policies, rules, and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

35 Creates and maintains course reserve lists using GIL and eLC by corresponding with instructors, retrieving requested materials, creating temporary bibliographic records for personal items, digitizing portions of materials, reconciling new lists, processing materials at the end of term, and performing inventory of the reserves shelves.
20 Assists in the operation of Libraries’ resource fulfillment by searching, retrieving, scanning and processing requested materials so that they may be delivered or routed for pick-up.
15 Assists patrons with specialized access services by circulating materials, issuing borrowers’ cards, placing and clearing student registration flags, answering inquiries concerning library obligations and access to library electronic resources, and by interpreting policies, rules, and regulations independently.
15 Assists in the operation of the Libraries’ resource sharing program, GIL Express, by searching, retrieving and processing materials requested by UGA patrons and USG patrons, and instructing UGA patrons in the use of GIL Express.
5 Provides routine information and direction pertaining to Libraries policy by greeting patrons, assisting them with questions and directing them to appropriate Departments.
5 Maintains flexibility in the Department and organization by assuming other similar responsibilities as assigned, and facilitates work flow by offering services to other staff when appropriate and with the permission of the immediate supervisor.
5 Participates in library-wide communication by reading, responding to, and initiating information transmitted via GRAPEVINE (the Libraries’ listserv) and other communication tools, and appropriate library-wide or departmental meetings and asking questions, seeking clarification, or initiating discussion on library issues.



Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
