  • The "Chat with a UGA Reference Librarian" service is best suited to short questions. If you have a research-intensive question, it may be better suited for an appointment with a subject specialist librarian.
  • Please do not send personal information such as your UGA 81#. It’s not needed for reference help.

Availability

Chat reference is primarily intended for University of Georgia faculty, staff and students but it is available to the general public as well.

Appropriate use

Questions should be research related or pertain to resources available at the University of Georgia or the Athens area. Note that questions of a complex nature such as a literature review for a thesis are not conducive to chat reference. Please consider submitting a Research Consultation request to meet with a librarian for in-depth assistance so we can devote an appropriate amount of time to your question. See our Ask A Question page for other options. Chat reference sessions may be terminated and the users banned for inappropriate or rude language; harassment of any kind; or repeated off-topic questions. Users of this service are expected to comply with the University of Georgia Policies on Use of Computers.

Privacy

Questions submitted to Ask-A-Question email service and Chat Reference are archived by the UGA Libraries for internal research and training purposes in a secure, password protected environment. To benefit other users of the service, we may add your question to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) website. If we do so, we will remove all personally identifiable information. The UGA Libraries maintains strict confidentiality and does not share e-mail addresses or other personal information of Ask-A-Question or Chat Reference users with any other organization.
