President Harry Truman (seated) signs the National School Lunch Act of 1946. Senator Russell stands third from the left.

Inspired by the Food, Power, Politics: The Story of School Lunch exhibit and the School Lunch Challenge cooking competition, the Russell Library established the Food, Power and Politics lecture in 2020. This lecture seeks to use food as a pathway to educate the University of Georgia, Athens-Clarke County, and wider publics about history, politics, nutrition, community, and culture.

This event is made possible by the Richard B. Russell Foundation Programming Endowment. Major event sponsors include the Russell Library, UGA Libraries, and College of Family and Consumer Sciences.
