Virtual Panel Discussion: The Hargrett Hours

Panel Discussion: The Hargrett Hours

| 02:00 pm - 03:00 pm | Online

Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library for a virtual panel discussion on the new exhibit, The Hargrett Hours: Exploring Medieval Manuscripts.

In 2016, Dr. Cynthia Turner Camp, associate professor of English, launched a multi-year, multi-course exercise centered around the medieval manuscripts held by the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Dubbed The Hargrett Hours Project, these courses explored a 15th century Book of Hours long owned by the Hargrett Library. Each semester, students learned the skills necessary to engage in basic manuscript study, and then worked in teams to apply those skills to deciphering items in the collections. Curated by student Georgia Early, the new exhibit showcases some of the types of items students have explored in the Hargrett Hours courses, and what they discovered about these medieval manuscripts along the way.

The panel discussion will feature Dr. Camp, Georgia Early, and former Hargrett Hours students, Katherine Haire and Ty Stewart. The event will be livestreamed on the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Libraries Facebook page on Thursday January 21 at 2:00PM. For more information, please contact Exhibition Coordinator Jan Hebbard at jhebbard@uga.edu or 706-583-0213.
