Job Summary

The Integrated Library System Management Librarian manages the Integrated Library System Management section of the Cataloging Department which is responsible for metadata and systems-related tasks, generating Ex-Libris Analytics reports, troubleshooting, problem solving, and ensuring database quality. The ILSM Librarian is responsible for managing catalog metadata, including production and quality assurance, analyzing and executing bibliographic record loads into the catalog, and monitoring and managing outsourced contract cataloging. This position liaises across library departments providing key support for the integrated library system and playing a unique role in ensuring that the University of Georgia Libraries take full advantage of existing technologies. The position investigates and adapts new technologies in acquiring, organizing, and presenting information to its faculty, students, and other users outside the UGA Libraries.  

Materials handled by the Integrated Libraries System Management Section include those for the Main, Science, Special Collection Libraries and off-campus research facility libraries. The Cataloging Department catalogs over 30,000 books, serials, microforms, and non-book materials yearly. The Department consists of 10 faculty and 17 support staff positions. The Integrated Library Systems Management Librarian participates in the Cataloging Department management group and the GIL Coordinating Group, in addition to various University System of Georgia functional committees. The University of Georgia Libraries participates in GIL, a statewide-interconnected implementation of the Ex-Libris system. The Department participates in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC), including NACO, SACO, and CONSER, as well as OCLC ENHANCE. In all activities, the goal is to develop a service-oriented, efficient, and effective staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to administer, customize, maintain and troubleshoot the library’s integrated library system, currently Ex-Libris’ Alma, including the Primo OPAC and EBSCO Discovery Service discovery layer. This includes monitoring system performance and coordinating system software with GIL Support, training staff on system modules and new releases, documenting all necessary policies and procedures, monitoring industry developments and recommending adoption of new programs when appropriate.   
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff members in Integrated Library System Management unit who are responsible for cataloging, record maintenance, and  processing cross-departmental workflows.
  • Manages library catalog data and load profiles which includes automating, monitoring, and managing outsourced contract cataloging, and providing technical support and quality control to Electronic Resources Management, GIL Support, and public services staff in troubleshooting issues related to EBSCO Discovery Service and OpenURL-based link resolver services.   
  • Provides analysis and record maintenance related to print retention agreements (HathiTrust, Scholars Trust), and acts as technical liaison to project partners.   
  • Coordinates with ProQuest and the University of Georgia Graduate School to ensure the delivery and load of Electronic Theses and Dissertations into the UGA Libraries catalog.   
  • Coordinates with relevant stakeholders to assist with UGA’s Esploro Research Information System implementation and cleanup of legacy data.   
  • Serves as liaison to library staff, members of other University System of Georgia Libraries, GIL Support, Ex-Libris, and the departments of the UGA Libraries regarding system issues and metadata cleanup; Provides technical expertise and support to colleagues and assists the University of Georgia Libraries with system-generated statistics and reporting and advises other USG institutions on record/resource management projects.   
  • Serves as an active member and leader on relevant library committees and in project planning groups. Performs other duties as assigned, including serving as a liaison for the Google Books digitization project. 
Qualifications

An ALA-accredited master’s degree in librarianship/information science or foreign equivalent.

Candidates will be considered at the rank of Librarian I, II, III, or IV. 

  • To be considered at the level of Librarian II, candidates must have 2 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree. 
  • To be considered at the level of Librarian III, candidates must have 5 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree. 
  • To be considered at the level of Librarian IV, candidates must have 10 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of library technology protocols such as Z39.50.  
  • Working knowledge of Ex-Libris Alma normalization rules and other back-end processes in the Ex-Libris Alma system. 
  • Familiarity with Excel and Ex-Libris Analytics, especially for reporting purposes.  
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience with MARC formats and bibliographic data. 
  • Five or more years of experience working in an academic library environment. 
  • Five or more years of supervisory experience.

Salary and Benefits

Minimum annual salary for this position begins at $50,000.  UGA librarians are non-tenured faculty members.  UGA offers an attractive benefits program including a choice of health and retirement plans, dental plan, vision plan, tuition remission, paid relocation, 21 days annual leave, 12 days sick leave, and 12 paid holidays.
