Webinar Series to Teach Students How to Make Use of UGA’s Library Services at a Distance

Submitted by amywatts on

When UGA students need help on a research project or a paper, they know to head to one of our Libraries. But when they are miles from campus, it might seem like that help is out of reach.

Yet while our campus and our locations are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and statewide shelter-in-place order, the services and resources of the libraries are available virtually.

Our librarians are available via our online chat, email and individual remote consultation, and many of our books and resources are available digitally.

We know that it can be difficult to find the tools that you need, so the Libraries and the Office of Online Learning are hosting a series of webinars to help you navigate the library at a distance and ask our librarians questions.

The series begins this week, with the same content planned two days in a row so that students have the ability to join on their own schedule. Students can register for Wednesday or Thursday sessions, both at 3:30 p.m., at the links below. The content will be available through the Office of Online Learning at a later date.

Library at a Distance Part 2: Finding Research at a Distance — April 15 and 16
In this webinar, we will share best practices for using library databases such as the Multi-Search and the GIL online catalog, as well as temporary enhanced access to the HathiTrust digital library. These resources provide access to peer-reviewed journal articles and e-books that can assist you with your research projects. We also have staff available if you need any additional assistance.

Library at a Distance Part 3: Introduction to Citation Managers – April 22 and 23

In this webinar, we'll show you how to access and use two citation managers: EndNote & RefWorks. These tools allow users to collect and organize the journal articles, books, and other scholarly citations they need for their research and then make it a snap to use those references to create citations and bibliographies in word processing software.
