Join the Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection for a fun family day celebrating Home Movie Day 2020! Hosted annually by The Center for Home Movies, Home Movie Day is a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking. From 16mm reels to VHS tapes, people have documented their everyday lives on film for over a century. Today, anyone can quickly record and share a home movie on their cell phone. Join us as we celebrate our home movies and yours!

On August 26, 1920 the 19th Amendment was certified by the U.S. Secretary of State and women achieved the right to vote throughout the United States. Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library in celebrating the 100th anniversary of this event with a virtual tour of the exhibit "The Strategies of Suffrage: Mobilizing a Nation for Women's Rights" on Wednesday, August 26th at 2:00 p.m. The event will be streamed live on our Facebook page. Dr. Marion Nestle is the Paulette Goddard Professor Emerita of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University. She is also a consumer advocate, nutritionist and author of six award-winning books. Nestle’s research examines scientific and socioeconomic influences on food choice, obesity and food safety, with an emphasis on the role of food marketing. Among her recent honors are the John Dewey Award for Distinguished Public Service from Bard College and the Public Health Hero Award from the University of California School of Public Health at Berkeley.

The Curriculum Materials Library, 207 Aderhold Hall, currently is hosting a display of materials on disabilities, thanks to the generosity of the Institute on Human Development and Disability, in the College of Family & Consumer Sciences. The materials, books & DVDs, are free to all and include Keeping Promises: Georgia Stories, a book about families & neighbors working together to help people with disabilities to live & thrive in their own communities. There are many different titles and all are free.
