Something wicked has been awakened at the Special Collections Building, set loose from the Brown Media Archives for those brave enough to watch. Dr. Speculo is broadcasting through time and space to bring us the most spine-chilling B-movie from 1959: The Killer Shrews!
Join us on the dead center of the Special Collections front lawn as we recreate the late-night horror hosts of midnights' past. Popcorn is free, picnic blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged; doors open at 6:30PM!
The Genius of Phillis Wheatley Peters: A Children's Literature and Family Literacy Panel
The Georgia Humanities Council and the Athens-Clarke County Library are proud to present a webinar on representations of Phillis Wheatley Peters in children’s literature, children’s historical texts, and picture books addressing issues pertinent to parents, librarians, and elementary/middle school educators. Speakers featured are Brigitte Fielder, Nicole Cooke, and JoAnn Wood, moderated by Margaret Robbins.
Exhibit Tour, Legacy: Vince Dooley, 1932-2022
Kick-off your football weekends with a tour of this exhibit featuring original artifacts and rarely seen photographs that explore the life and career of legendary UGA coach Vince Dooley. Join curator Jason Hasty at 3:00 p.m. in the second floor rotunda of the Special Collections Building. This tour is free to the public with no prior registration required. Local History Expo 2023
Drop into the Oconee County Library to see some of the many cool artifacts on display and meet some of the local history organizations in our area.
Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library will be bringing artifacts and memorabilia from the UGA Athletic Association Archive. This will include items associated with the Auburn vs Georgia football game. Hargrett will also be bringing artifacts from its collection that are associated with Oconee County.
Family Day: St. Catherines Island
Join the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library for an afternoon of family fun highlighting the new exhibit, Exploring St. Catherine's Island. Scott Jones from Media Prehistoria will display stone tools, hunting weapons, cordage, and bone tools, in addition to conducting a fire-making demonstration. Visitors can also conduct their own archaeology dig and create a pinch pot to take home!
